Testimonials

"When someone asks if they should automate, my answer is simple, call HOJ. I may not know every detail of automation, but I know they do"

- Mike Haslam

"Container unloading was hard on our workers. HOJ’s powered conveyor eliminated heavy lifting and turned it into a safer automated process."

- Michael Moser

"Automation removed a lot of manual prep work by automatically batching tasks based on our criteria. It freed up supervisors and managers and made daily execution much simpler."

- Todd Peay

"Having a local automation partner makes a huge difference. Being able to meet on site, walk the operation, and talk through ideas in real time leads to better solutions than phone calls or video meetings ever could."

- Scott Bryan

When a Vertical Carousel Fits Your Operation

Vertical carousels are not a fit for every warehouse. Use the criteria below to evaluate whether a rotating carrier system is the right investment before requesting a quote.

Strong Fit Indicators

Your operation is a strong candidate for a vertical carousel module if you recognize most of these conditions:

  • High-velocity SKU profile. You handle 500 to 5,000 active SKUs that move frequently, where pickers visit the same shelving rows dozens of times per shift.

  • Small to medium part sizes. Items fit within standard carrier dimensions, typically under 18 inches deep and weighing under a few hundred pounds per location.

  • Moderate ceiling height. Available clear height between 12 and 35 feet, where the carousel can use vertical cube without requiring structural changes.

  • Repetitive picking patterns. Operators currently spend 60% or more of their time walking, searching, or scanning shelves rather than physically picking and packing.

  • Accuracy-sensitive workflows. Mispicks carry real cost, common in medical device kitting, electronics assembly, MRO parts rooms, and aerospace tooling cribs.

Common Applications

Vertical carousels perform especially well in manufacturing parts cribs, aerospace and defense tool control, healthcare and medical device storage, electronics component kitting, e-commerce small-item fulfillment, and service parts depots supporting field technicians.

When to Consider Alternatives

A vertical carousel may not be the right system if you are storing items larger than your tallest carrier, handling fewer than a few hundred SKUs at very high volume, or working with extremely heavy or oversized inventory. In those cases, a vertical lift module or hybrid storage strategy may deliver better cube utilization and throughput.

Questions Worth Answering Before You Buy

Before specifying a system, document your current picks per hour, your peak-shift order profile, the dimensional and weight distribution of your top 200 SKUs, and your integration requirements with existing WMS or ERP software. These four data points drive the carrier configuration, the unit count, and the realistic ROI window for any carousel deployment.
