A telescopic conveyor is an extendable belt conveyor that reaches from a loading dock directly into a trailer or container to load and unload loose cargo. The boom extends and retracts on command, so an operator stands at the belt face and handles parcels, boxes, sacks, or tyres without walking into the trailer. Reach runs up to 21 meters.

Key facts

•   Extends up to 21 m (69 ft) into a trailer or container

•   Carries up to 100 kg per meter on the belt

•   Throughput up to 1,200 pieces per hour per conveyor

•   Handles parcels, boxes, polybags, sacks, and tyres

•   Elevates up to 10 degrees for ergonomic working height

•   Backed by a 5-year structural warranty

How does a telescopic conveyor work?

A telescopic conveyor mounts at a dock door and extends a series of nested belt sections, the boom, into the trailer. An operator at the moving belt face uses a smart-pad or joystick to control the boom's length and elevation, keeping the belt within arm's reach of the cargo as the trailer fills or empties. Loose items ride the belt between the trailer and the warehouse without manual carrying. At the warehouse end, the belt transfers parcels onto a fixed conveyor for sortation or putaway. Optional features extend the same machine: an ergonomic front section for floor-to-overhead reach, or automatic loading for hands-free operation.

Where are telescopic conveyors used?

•   Parcel and e-commerce loading and unloading docks

•   Floor-loaded container and import receiving

•   Postal and courier sortation hubs

•   Retail and 3PL distribution centers

•   Tyre, sack, and bagged-goods handling

•   High-throughput peak-season operations

Why use a telescopic conveyor instead of manual loading?

Manual trailer loading means carrying every item the full depth of the trailer, the slowest and most injury-prone job on the dock. A telescopic conveyor brings the belt to the cargo, so operators move items a short distance instead of walking 50 feet each trip. That raises throughput, cuts strain and injury risk, and clears trailers faster. Safety features like an anti-collision bumper and a fully shielded underside reduce the chance of injury or cargo damage.

Plan a telescopic conveyor system

HOJ engineers and integrates telescopic conveyors as a Caljan partner and independent integrator, matching reach, capacity, and automation level to your dock layout and cargo mix, then tying the conveyor into your sortation network. Talk to a loading systems specialist.

Testimonials

"When someone asks if they should automate, my answer is simple, call HOJ. I may not know every detail of automation, but I know they do"

- Mike Haslam

"Container unloading was hard on our workers. HOJ’s powered conveyor eliminated heavy lifting and turned it into a safer automated process."

- Michael Moser

"Automation removed a lot of manual prep work by automatically batching tasks based on our criteria. It freed up supervisors and managers and made daily execution much simpler."

- Todd Peay

"Having a local automation partner makes a huge difference. Being able to meet on site, walk the operation, and talk through ideas in real time leads to better solutions than phone calls or video meetings ever could."

- Scott Bryan
