A slider bed belt conveyor moves cases on a continuous belt that slides over a solid steel bed. The flat, supported surface carries small, light, fragile, or irregular items that would fall between rollers, which makes belt conveyor the standard choice for packing, sorting, inspection, and feeding packaging machinery. Capacity runs to 75 lbs per linear foot.

Key facts

•   Belt rides on a solid steel bed, not rollers

•   Capacity up to 75 lbs per linear foot

•   Standard belt speed 65 FPM; variable speeds available

•   Belt widths from 6 to 30 inches

•   Lengths up to 102 ft, ships in bolt-together 5 or 10 ft sections

•   Belt options for grip, incline, and washdown applications

What is a slider bed belt conveyor?

A slider bed belt conveyor consists of a continuous belt that loops around a drive pulley at one end and a tail pulley at the other, with the carrying side of the belt sliding across a solid sheet-metal bed. The bed supports the belt along its full length, so even small or unstable items ride flat without sagging or falling through gaps. A motor and speed reducer drive the pulley, moving the belt at a constant or variable speed. Because the surface is smooth and unbroken, a belt conveyor handles the cases a roller conveyor cannot: padded envelopes, polybags, small cartons, and fragile or irregular product.

Where are belt conveyors used?

•   Packing, inspection, and assembly line operations

•   Feeding case sealers, palletizers, and packaging machinery

•   Conveying small, light, fragile, or irregular cases

•   Inclines and declines between conveyor levels

•   Sortation infeed where a smooth surface aids tracking

•   Light to medium-duty distribution and shipping lines

When should you use a belt conveyor instead of rollers?

Choose a belt conveyor when the product cannot ride reliably on rollers. Items shorter than three roller centers, lightweight polybags, fragile goods, or irregular shapes need the continuous support a slider bed provides. Belt also grips product on inclines where rollers would let it slide back. Roller conveyor is the better fit for uniform, rigid cartons at lower energy cost, which is why most facilities run both, belt where support matters, rollers where efficiency does.

Plan a belt conveyor line

HOJ engineers and integrates belt conveyor as a Hytrol partner, specifying bed type, belt surface, width, and drive to match your case profile and line layout, then tying it into your wider conveyor system. Talk to a conveyor specialist.

Testimonials

"When someone asks if they should automate, my answer is simple, call HOJ. I may not know every detail of automation, but I know they do"

- Mike Haslam

"Container unloading was hard on our workers. HOJ’s powered conveyor eliminated heavy lifting and turned it into a safer automated process."

- Michael Moser

"Automation removed a lot of manual prep work by automatically batching tasks based on our criteria. It freed up supervisors and managers and made daily execution much simpler."

- Todd Peay

"Having a local automation partner makes a huge difference. Being able to meet on site, walk the operation, and talk through ideas in real time leads to better solutions than phone calls or video meetings ever could."

- Scott Bryan
