What is robotic order consolidation?

Order fulfillment has three steps: picking selects the items, sortation routes them by destination, and consolidation assembles the picked items into the finished order. Robotic order consolidation automates that third step. When orders are picked in batches or split across multiple zones, the items arrive separately and must be brought back together before shipping. A robotic system does this by directing each item to the right destination, a lit cubby in a put wall, an order bin buffered in a cube-storage grid, or a tote staged by a mobile robot, and holding the order until every line is present.
