A belt-driven roller bed keeps product moving under controlled friction, so the line buffers product without crushing it. A minimum-pressure accumulation conveyor accumulates product behind a stop or meter belt, with each carton coming to rest against the one ahead to form a queue, or train. The rollers keep turning underneath that train, but a spring-adjusted carrier senses the friction needed to keep product moving and reduces the drive so pressure does not build. The result is light, controlled contact rather than the crushing back pressure of a standard conveyor. Most minimum-pressure systems release the full queue at once, slug mode, which suits feeding merges and sortation. Because it relies on controlled contact rather than sensor-isolated zones, it is simpler and less expensive than zero-pressure, but it does not handle curves, merges, or mixed sizes as cleanly.

Choose minimum-pressure when cartons are uniform in size and weight, runs are short and straight, and budget matters, it costs about half as much and moves more product per foot. Choose zero-pressure instead when product is fragile, sizes and weights vary, the line includes curves, merges, or diverts, or finished surfaces cannot tolerate any contact. If product or layout varies, the back pressure of a minimum-pressure line can cause side-by-sides and jams at transitions.
