A merge conveyor brings several infeed lines together at a controlled junction, often a sawtooth merge or combiner, releasing cases from each line in turn so they form one continuous stream without colliding. That single stream then passes over a gapping conveyor, which sets the right distance between cases by running at a different speed than the conveyor before it. With consistent gaps in place, the stream reaches induction, where scanners read each barcode and the control system assigns a destination before the case enters the sorter. Correct gapping is what lets the sorter divert accurately at full speed.
