An autonomous forklift is a lift truck that picks, moves, and places pallets with no driver on board. It maps the building with laser SLAM, so it runs on existing floors with no wire, tape, or reflectors. HOJ integrates the SEER Robotics forklift family: reach, counterbalance, and pallet truck models that share one controller and one fleet software.

Key facts

  • Laser SLAM navigation, no floor infrastructure, ±10 mm repeat accuracy
  • AI pallet recognition for wrapped, damaged, and misaligned pallets, standard or optional by model
  • SSR-1400US reach truck: 3,086 lb, stacks to 118 in, 55 in aisles
  • SCB-3000EU counterbalance: 6,614 lb, stacks to 138 in
  • SPT-1500UL pallet truck: 3,300 lb, 3 m/s travel, GMA pallets with no stand
  • Mixed fleets run under one SEER RDS fleet manager with WMS integration

How does an autonomous forklift work?

The robot builds a map of your facility on day one and localizes against it with onboard LiDAR. Your WMS or a SEER task scheduler sends a move order, the forklift drives to the pickup, and onboard sensors locate the pallet pockets before the forks enter. It then travels the shortest open path, places the load at the drop point to within ±10 mm, and returns to the next task or a charger. Safety scanners cover 360 degrees and slow or stop the truck when a person or obstacle enters the field, which removes operator blind spots, a common cause of forklift strikes and tip-overs.

Where are autonomous forklifts used?

  • Dock to storage putaway and replenishment to rack
  • Line-side delivery of raw material and removal of finished goods
  • Cross-zone pallet transport between buildings or departments
  • Trailer staging and pallet buffering without pick-and-drop stands
  • Heavy automotive, battery, and machinery components
  • Multi-shift operations with hard-to-fill forklift openings

When is an autonomous forklift better than an AGV forklift?

An AGV forklift follows a fixed guide path, so every route change means new tape, wire, or reflectors on the floor. An autonomous forklift plans its own path from a map, reroutes around a blocked aisle, and takes a new station from a software change with no floor work. On the SEER platform the reach truck, counterbalance, and pallet truck all run the same SRC controller and RDS fleet manager, so you can start with one unit and add types without replacing the system.

Plan an autonomous forklift system

HOJ engineers and integrates autonomous forklifts as an independent integrator. We size the fleet from your pallet volumes and travel paths, pick the SEER model that fits your racking and aisles, and connect it to your WMS. The SPT-1500UL and other SEER AMRs run in our demo fleet, so you can see them move your pallet type before you commit. Talk to an automation engineer.

Testimonials

"When someone asks if they should automate, my answer is simple, call HOJ. I may not know every detail of automation, but I know they do"

- Mike Haslam

"Container unloading was hard on our workers. HOJ’s powered conveyor eliminated heavy lifting and turned it into a safer automated process."

- Michael Moser

"Automation removed a lot of manual prep work by automatically batching tasks based on our criteria. It freed up supervisors and managers and made daily execution much simpler."

- Todd Peay

"Having a local automation partner makes a huge difference. Being able to meet on site, walk the operation, and talk through ideas in real time leads to better solutions than phone calls or video meetings ever could."

- Scott Bryan
