The most common types are unit load AGVs (for pallets and containers), tugger/tow vehicles (for pulling carts to production lines), forklift AGVs (for lifting and stacking at height), and an automated guided cart or AGC (the simplest, lowest-cost option for light loads on assembly lines).

AGVs are typically managed by fleet control software that coordinates routing and task assignment, often integrated with a facility's warehouse management system (WMS) or ERP to streamline automated material handling.

 

What are the different types of AGVs?

AGVs range from a basic automated guided cart (AGC) starting around $15,000–$25,000 for light, tape-guided transport, to an agv forklift at $75,000–$200,000+ that handles lifting, stacking, and racking operations without an operator.

In between, a towing agv pulls multiple carts per trip for high-throughput line-side delivery in manufacturing, and unit load AGVs carry individual pallets or containers between fixed points.
