As COVID-19 transitioned from an isolated concern to a worldwide pandemic, the need for protective gear skyrocketed. Manufacturers in medical supplies and safety equipment increased their production lines, but it wasn't enough to keep up with heavy demand.

Hospitals and facilities all over the globe have been suffering from shortages in gloves, masks, and personal protective equipment. With OSHA knocking on the front door of almost all of these businesses, the need for an alternative solution has been a serious question.

In the world of Material Handling, workers are faced with factories and warehouses that require masks. They are exposed to metals, paints, chemicals, and gases on a daily basis. So, to combat this increased shortage in N95 masks, Utah-based company Miakomo worked with Aspen Air, a local manufacturer, to design and start manufacturing reusable rubber masks.

Using injection molded machinery, they were able to create a Reusable Particulate Respirator Frame (PRF) mask that would outlast an already scarce N95 mask by 400%. In fact, you're able to take the N95 masks and cut out 6 individual filters to be used in one mask. This comes at an extreme benefit for doctors and nurses on the front lines. Though this is not FDC approved, police have been purchasing high volumes as they cannot get any masks to protect their officers. Nationwide we have been directed to use whatever we can get our hands on.

Having started manufacturing just a few days ago, Miakomo is currently equipped to make roughly 5,000 to 10,000 a day. 100,000 per day is definitely on the horizon.
