Utilizing all of the WOS APP’s Pitman Creek manages the flow of products from the time they are received through putaway, picking, replenishment and packing. This process involves 45 operators on the floor utilizing iPads mounted in lite injection molded enclosures all tracked and managed to unnamed-1ensure full accountability with a commitment to process orders the same day they are received. As Chief Operations Officer for Pitman Creek, John Johnson understands the importance of achieving maximized efficiencies within the fulfillment process and rewarding operators accordingly. “We needed a warehouse operations system to effectively implement a picking and packaging incentive program for personnel based upon their production. With the powerful API’s incorporated within WOS, we were able to implement a process to track each operator’s activity and display in real time, on metrics boards located throughout the facility, their current production rates. Coupled with the simple user interface and visibility of iPads we have been able to achieve our desired efficiencies,” says John. “After the first year of operation Pitman Creek has achieved efficiency improvements in every aspect of our operation. We have seen the following improvements:”

  • Picks per minute per operator from less than 6 to some now achieving as high as 8.5 (over 500 picks per hour).
  • Daily fill rates (orders shipped same day) from 84% to over 92%
  • Ability to effectively manage inventory control on all stock keeping units.
  • Output pieces per minute for the overall facility increased from 45 to 83 – an increase of 85% to an average of 5,000 pieces per hour.

Utilizing their custom developed warehouse management system became difficult as business grew to purchasing products from over 300 manufacturers and receiving over 200,000 units weekly. In addition, a simple process to receive and putaway these products required the ability to manage receipts via temporary home, back stock and pick/storage locations. Functions WOS could accomplish with full traceability throughout each step of the process. The implementation of WOS made it possible to utilize a small Bluetooth scanner connected to an iPad , eliminating the large cumbersome hand held scanners requiring constant maintenance and attention. Operators can now spend time doing warehouse functions uninterrupted by hardware and software issues.

The system implemented for Pitman Creek utilizes iPads mounted in our new lite injection molded enclosures. The enclosures are equipped with a quick disconnect system attaching to their mobile picking carts, equipped with a swivel bracket. This unique design allows operators to store and pick products without the use of paper or cumbersome hand-held mobile terminals. Operators simply scan items and locations as directed by the mounted tablet devices. The tablets are controlled wirelessly by a system manager connected through Wi-Fi to our Tablet DirectorTM software. Tablet DirectorTM releases orders, schedules operators activities, and tracks in-process orders throughout the entire order fulfillment process.
